E-BOARD MEETING MINUTES

December 20, 2008

The President called the meeting to order at 12:27 PM.   Members in attendance were:  President Steve Gibbone,  Gerardo Alfaro, John Bradley, T. Paul DiVito, Robert Leso, and Jack Weber. 

Secretary Nicholas Gulli, not being present, minutes were taken by Assistant Secretary John F. Bradley.  The Minutes of the November 15,  2008 Meeting, posted on the Website, were accepted without amendment.

Treasurer Robert Leso reported a Treasury balance of $3,741.83.  His report was accepted.

The President summarized recent events, such as the Memorial Mass for Deceased Members and the Annual Mass for the Canonization of Blessed John of Vercelli.  He then reviewed the Committee appointments, and made the following observations:

Casino:  He would like to combine our PAHNU function with a parish society which is already sponsoring a Casino trip.

Parades:  This committee is currently inactive.

Sick and Vigil:  The President appointed Gerry Alfaro as Chair of this committee, and encouraged him to contact parish societies, to learn of their sick and recently deceased members.  Mr. Alfaro was advised to use the information on the Website under "Parish Societies" for contact information.

TV Mass:  John Bradley was appointed Chair of this committee, in light of his connection with the producer, Dr. Annette DiMedio.

COMMITEE REPORTS

MONTHLY BLESSED JOHN MASS:  Paul DiVito reported that the December Mass was held on the 13th, at St. Hugh of Cluny Parish, Philadelphia.  The 2009 schedule has not been finalized, but the first half of 2009 should look similar to 2008.

ANNUAL BLESSED JOHN MASS:  Paul DiVito reported that the Mass was well organized, the food was good, and that the sale of Holy Name suppies went very well.  However, he was disappointed that the attendance was only slightly in excess of 100.  It was suggested that attendance may have been depressed by unseasonably cold and rainy weather/

HISPANIC HOLY NAME SOCIETIES:  President Gibbone reiterated that the reason he will be holding 2009 Board Meetings at the Catholic Center for Evangeklization is to encourage Hispanic psrticipation.

PRISON MINISTRY:  Jack Weber reported that he has recruited 3 new "Pen Pals", all of whom are Hispanic.  He observed that the "demand" fior "Pen Pals" is greater among institutional residents than the supply is on the "outside".

SUPPLIES: Paul DiVito reported that the profit for Supply sales was approximately $300.00

John Bradley led a decade of the Rosary.

FUND-RAISING:  John Bradley advised that ticket sales have been going very well, and requested that final returns be made to him by November 30th, to give him time to turn in the stubs prior to the drawing on December 6th.  Several members present made returns to Mr. Bradley at the meeting.  Treasurer Robert Leso advised that he will be attending the Annual Mass for Blessed John, on November 30th, and will give Mr. Bradley a check for Roman Catholic High School Alumni Association at that time.  Mr. Bradley will make a full report on sale proceeds at the December Meeting.

MEMORIAL MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS:   John Bradley advised that, through the goof offices of Dr. Annette DiMedio, he has secured the services of Josh Anderson as trumpeter, to play "Taps", when the names of the Deceased Members are read.  Willie Rodriguez requested that all Holy Name members wear black suits with white shirts.  John Bradley advised that this year, there will be no presentation of the John Schaum Memorial Award, which is customarily given to a deceased Holy Name member whom the PAHNU had never honored during lifetime.

OLD BUSINESS

There was no Old Business.

NEW BUSINESS

AWARDS:  President Gibbone appointed Curtis McGaffin as Awards Chair.  Paul DiVito and John Bradley advised him that customarily 3 types of awards are presented:

Medallion Circile - One apiece to a Priest and a Layperson, for outstanding service on the Archdiocesan level.

Thomas Ryan Award - One, for outstanding service on the Parish level.

John Schaum Memorial Award - One, to a deceased Holy Name member who was never honored by the PAHNU during lifetime.

The Medallion Circle and Thomas Ryan Awards are presented at the Annual Banquet, and the John Schaum Memorial Award is presented at the Annual Memorial Mass for Deceased Members.  However, this year, there have been no nominations submitted.

BANQUET:  President Gibbone advised that this year's Banquet would be held at Maternity BVM Parish, in Philadelphia.  After discussion, it was agreed that our target date would be Sunday, April 19th, with Sunday, April 26th as the back up date.  John Bradley accepted the position of Banquet Chair for 2009.  Bill Derham will make the initial arrangements with the parish; as soon as he has done so, John Bradley will visit the site, to view the facilities.

There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed unanimously.  The closing prayer was then recited.
